Official corruption in Nigeria
in philosophical, theological or moral discussion, corruption is a spiritual or moral impurity or deviation from an ideal, corruption may include many activities including bribery and embezzlement. Corruption has been officially proclaimed by the Nigerian state,it is a way of life,it keeps the government and people of Nigeria going. From the presidential villa to the thatched house in the far North and in the creeks of the delta,it runs in our blood, it is in every aspect of our daily life. Nigerians are known globally for corruption, our government and political office holders act in official capacities for their personal gains. there is corruption that occurs as small favours between a small number of people(petty corruption)while their is the corruption that affects the government on a large scale(grand corruption) and corruption that is so prevalent that it is part of every day structure of society(systemic or official corruption), Nigeria ranks in the class of systemic or official corruption,it is primarily due to the weaknesses of our institutions and organisations. It can be contrasted with individual officials or agents who act corruptly within the system. Factors which encourage official corruption include conflicting incentives, discretionary powers, monopolistic powers, lack of transparency, low pay and a culture of impunity. Specific acts of official corruption include bribery, extortion and embezzlement. Corruption has been so official that the government of Nigeria cannot trace the funds looted by the Abacha military junta and the evil days of the Nigerian military. According to research’s done by independent sources, the elites of this great nation has stolen a whooping 600 billion dollars from the government purse from 1960 to 2007 and still counting, that’s a large amount of money that can change the face of Nigeria. Corruption is so prevalent in our society and has really eaten deep into our everyday life. Our so called elected leaders heat up the polity every election period cause they know the government circle is a place to loot and steal, our society has been deceived by this wicked group of people, our masses play to their evil rules, the few intelligent and bold minded individuals ready to fight against these evil powers are no longer motivated cause immediately you come up,they label you a threat to democracy and an enemy of the state. its now a slogan that if you can’t beat them you join them,I cry my heart for this great nation, our founding fathers are really ashamed for what they fought for, cause its no longer the Nigeria of their dreams, they really wanted a country devoid of poverty, hatred, crime, terrorism and ethnic divide, but what we have today is a banana republic were the rich keeps getting richer and the poor keeps getting poorer, according to hillary Clinton Nigeria is too rich to be poor,we virtually have everything, from natural to Human resources but official corruption has been a barrier for the development of this great nation. From the market women,to the teachers, civil servants, private sectors, non governmental organisation and families of this great nation,we all practice one form of official corruption. in conclusion their must be core family values for the required change we need to face this un daunting task that is really eating deep into our society. NIGERIA MUST STAND UP!!!!
